Post by kiklo »

Hi.

Just got this tip from Oscar, one of our newest member in the group.

Have any of you used this kind of tool ?

I don’t know anyone who has used the Faller tool. I don’t think it will work unless it will make a clean groove 0.7mm wide and 0.7 mm deep for a guide wire that has a 0.7mm diameter. I’m quite sure Wes used 0.7mm music wire to build his tracks. I used .032”(.81mm) wire for my outdoor track which is bumpy with banked corners. Bumps cause the distance between the guide magnet in the car and the wire embedded in the track to increase. This reduces the attractive force between the magnet and the wire. Larger diameter wire offsets the likely loss of control with thinner wire. Banked curves also cause the distance between the wire and the magnet to increase unless the chassis is designed to twist along the lengthwise axis of the car so as to keep all 4 wheels on the road surface at all times.
On page 4 of the instructions for the Faller Groove tool, it reads Depth of cut: preset for FALLER Car System (0,6 mm)
I think that buying a cordless Dremel tool and the correct diameter fishtail router bits and using them to cut a groove in GAF EnergyGuard Polyiso Insulation Board would result in a better track and cost much less money. See my posts at
