Hi magracers!! I like the concept of magracing. tracks are great without slot and conductors.
Do you think it s mechanically possible to put the lane changing system in the track and not in the car as a digital slot car system?
The only problem is that the wire must be covered by a slim plate of plastic card or cardboard and i m not sure that the magnetic effect can be good.
Hi from france with an idea. Is it possible?

Hello
Yes I think this a possibility. I wouldn't worry too much about the reduced magnetic force if you need the wire a little lower as you can experiment with larger diameter wire or a plate mounted vertically as this would increase the magnetic force where you need it. It may even be possible to use a flexible piece of steel mounted vertically which could be pulled thus eliminating the hinge!
There are a few downsides to your proposal. Firstly the track and control is more expensive which is one of the attractive things about magracing. Also by eliminating steering in the car you will also be unable to be drive back onto the track after a crash as you have no steering control.
This is an interesting proposal, particularly for very small tracks in say 1/43 scale. These are not currently possible due to the size of components in the car.

Thanks to your answer!! I think 0.8 mm piano wire is flexible enough to be moved of 1cm by a little solenoid on a length of 5 or 6 cm.
The idea is to mix magracing with BLST slot track system gameplay. cars automatically follow the best line and automatically overtake the front car.
It must be possible to use hall effect sensor to detect cars on switches.
