Hard bodies with 3" wheelbase

Post by Double Naught »

I noticed that all of the Strombecker and Eldon bodies that I have are 3" wheelbase. Is this true for all of them?
Where would you cut this D Type Jag if you were to widen it? I would like to make 1/4" to 3/8" wider, poor thing is in rough shape. Hopefully I can give it a second life.

I'd cut it in half and stretch it there. Obviously liberties are taken with many lexan bodied slot cars. A bit of work but probably easier than coming up with a whole new chassis! Might even make an interesting look.

The D Type Jag and the Ferrari TR 250 ought'a be pretty close in size as they came in the same slot car set back in the day. I wouldn't count on that in the later cars with the metal chassis tough. I have both of those cars here. The Ferrari set up on an Artin slot car chassis. The Jag is still in a box waiting for me to get around to it. They are a little over scale based on the drivers size. But that means they might be good candidates for magsteer conversion.

Other good candidates might be the Eldon Lotus 23 and Porsche RSK. They are thought of as 1/32 but actually are closer to 1/24 scale based on the drivers size but the Lotus was a tiny car in real life making the 1/24 car close to larger 1/32 cars. Here is a pic of the Eldon Lotus 23 compared to a 1/32 Pioneer Mustang body and a couple of 1/32 SCX MGA's.

Still puttering with these, they are getting closer to being done. The Jag's wheelbase is 3" but the Ferrari's has been adjusted a bit shorter. I made the wheel wells a bit smaller on it.
