I use a rubber self-healing electrical tape.
It works perfectly and after 6 weeks of play they haven't separated.
They can be treated, and even trued up with sandpaper - to me this is the best I have found by far, so far.
It is Scotch brand, #2242 Rubber Electrical Tape - I found mine at Lowes.

Re: Modular tracks
I actually built my 4' by 8' "Go Kart" test track out of the little 2' by 4' pieces they sell at Home Depot and Lowes - I happened to see them in 1/4" MDF and I figured they could work - I later screwed them together to make a one piece track... I think it would be a fairly easy "...

Re: Controller for lefties - wrong way around...
I hold the controller horizontally, parallel to the floor. This gives me my 'good' right slot car hand to control the throttle - and I find I can intuitively 'twist' the knob in the direction I want the car to 'twist' or steer, wherever the car is on the track - It works pretty well for me - and I d...

That seems like more than enough for a 1/24 scale racer weighing 150 grams...

Re: 'Routing the Keld method' (Dremel saw)
I may have come up with that term - good to see you using it... "The Keld Method". I *really feel* this is the way to go. I simply glued a piece of 1/4" MDF board (what I was using to make the test track anyhow) to the bottom of the cutoff saw and the depth was perfect. I simply pushe...

Double Naught -
Just to be clear - I would also like to know how much amperage the speed control can handle.

Keld - You can definitely "cook" windings - from the slot car racing world you may be familiar with the dreaded smell of a toasted armature during competition... I understand about using steering sparsely - in fact - I even find "blipping" the throttle, so full juice is momentar...

...... if one wanted to run fast brass chassis cars based on 1/24 hard body kits for example. .. Vintage..... You think a 3.7 volt battery will handle this? I will be testing out a bunch of small can motors to see if I can make my cars faster. I believe I will need this to make up for the added wei...

Re: NW California Track
I particularly like the third picture down - accessing the driving line from the inside and/or the outside lane could be applied to oval track design - seems like a pretty slick way of doing things... gaining a driving line and a lane change all at once. I feel really strongly that " The Keld M...

Re: What I've learned so far...
More I have learned: That the steering coils can get hot if you push the car fast and do *a lot* of *frequent* steering input - like on my short track oval test track... Steering is the first thing to fade when the battery starts to loose energy. I like what you are saying NorCal about wire ends - I...
