Re: Differentials?

I'm happy to fiddle with the 'complications' as I have no intention of going into production and failure and wasted effort are all part of it for me. I'm still thinking about two small motors, one for each rear wheel. One of my LIDAR cars had this and I was going to make them independently controlle...

Re: Differentials?

I can see the flex will aid dealing with uneven surfaces. I think if you want more 'differential' effect due to weight transfer, raising the CoG at the rear of the car (especially if you are building in flex) will do that. If the extra flex doesn't already give you want you need (it all depends upon...

Re: Differentials?

I'll pursue the differential route for a bit. Complexity is not an issue for me as playing about is what/why I'm doing this. I have three different ones already to choose from plus the possibility of the dual motor option. It's all good experimentation as I need nearly all these problems solved for ...

Differentials?

Speaking as someone who still has to get a car running on a track... I am going my own way on the design and build because... well just because. I have done some simple tests and getting the car to turn it at the corners seems to me to be an essential part of getting a nice handling car. Grippiness ...

Re: Steering theory...

This must have been my final push along test. I think its going to become the new front end. I'm not sure if you mean the pinion and spur you can see but there's a shed more gears in a servo but more than the first magracer! You can't even tell the motor is there... early test will be to see if it's...

Re: Steering theory...

Sorting through the old projects for stuff for a new build and hey ho stumbled across this... shows the coreless motor in place in a mag steered front end where the steering axis is mid way within the front wheels (not pretty but that's for another day :) ). http://www.alanboother.co.uk/slot/2020082...

Re: Steering theory...

Biggest concern was hitting the divide between left and right lane. I'd anticipated many iterations of a split/change lane design having to be made and tested and IF it was possible it would have been fractions of a millimeter between working and not working. I didn't relish making these and know th...

Re: Steering theory...

And here are two steering front ends I designed/3D printed. One is rather inside out (ackerman wrong!) however these were part of the push car experiment plus I wanted to get the wheel king pin axis in the centre of the wheel to minimise the negative steering effect of hitting a bump in the road. Fi...

Re: Steering theory...

Here is the best I can do for the moment about the coreless steering motor. It is the remains of an experiment into making a lane change feature for slot cars. The motor and link between the steering knuckles have been removed - probably for another project! I stopped the slot car lane change when I...

Re: Car IDs

Don't worry. This is just for me.

3 minutes is the standard race length at the slot car club.
