KK-P1 proto up and running

Post by kiklo »

A few static shots. It has potential of running on par with all my previous cars.

Putting the servo between the front wheels allow for shorter wheel base.
And with the DasMicro87 electronics - even a Mini ?

Motor pod is interchangeable. Makes it easy to adjust length and motor type.

The orange lip keeps the servo arm from pivoting in horizontal direction. These servos starts to flutter if servoarms lift.

The steel bolts (magnetic) in front of the servo can be used to trim guide centering and centering lift. You can lift the guide-magnet at straits to increase speed and still have good tracion at cornering. ( At least in theory.)

Kim,
You've come up with some interesting ideas. I especially like your idea:
The steel bolts (magnetic) in front of the servo can be used to trim guide centering and centering lift. You can lift the guide-magnet at straits to increase speed and still have good tracion at cornering. ( At least in theory.)
I'm eager to hear how it works in practice.

Testrun timing shows rounds in the high 13 sec area.
Best timing with Magracing original is high 12s.

I have used std slotcar rear axle with 36/8 teeth gear as to M1 30/8 so I have a lower top speed.

Have to test better combinations to find the sweet spot with the std. motor.

M1 & M2 30 8 3.75

KK-P1 36 8 4.5
next test 1 36 9 4
36 10 3.6

38 9 4.22
Test 2 38 10 3.8

40 9 4.44
40 10 4
40 11 3.64

While I'm waiting for linear servos with longer throw I tested a new design.

It got some interesting properties.

The linear servos are VERY sensitive for sideways movements of the servo arm. By putting it in a 'sleeve' I got rid of play and problems.

I'm also testing out 'servo-hammer' this can give you an option to over-steer the magline EVEN if there is no lanechange.
I think this can be good fun and useful on the straights to overtake slow drivers.
(Hope you don't mind Wes tampering with your brilliant ideas.)

Very interesting Kim, and certainly very colourful! Haven't tried linear servos myself yet. There is still room for improvement with Magracing and I too spend a lot of time trying out new ideas. Usually they are no better. But just occasionally, like today, I made a small improvement!
I guess you survived your skiing then, was it langlauf? Lifts not working?

About colors. Yes it is a bit excessive, but for several reasons. Same filament brand and type can have different capabilities depending on color, so testing and using leftovers for parts that is going to be replaced with better parts as testing progress.

And yes we had a fantastic randonee trip to Norways highest mountain Galdhøpiggen at 2469 moh. Superb snow and totally calm.

Steering:
Solid self centering.
Easy access to adjusting steering magnet.
Very efficient turning in reverse.

Still a bit play to get rid of. Not noticeable when driving.
