After some months trying to think of something more interesting than Magracing to do, and failing miserably!, I decided to build up a static kit which I had aquired some time ago. Static didn't sound too exciting so I decided to make it a racer.
Bit of a squeeze but pleased with the result. The kit has been around for many years I understand and was made by SMER somewhere in Eastern Europe. I had a larger spur gear with 3mm bore which happened to be the bore of the wheels so 3mm silver steel made the rear axle and the front stub axles. The gear ratio is still a little high but the car goes well. I will video it as soon as I have time.

Very Good Wes. 1:24 is a nice format and that can be a better racing world!

It seems my new Movie Maker video is in mp4 so I had to post the link. I tried Kim's idea of holding the speed control trigger in reverse when fitting the battery to get a steady speed. A little tricky to get the speed right as my track has the bridge and the hill up and down. It worked better going anti-clockwise (the wrong way round).
The front wheels are a nice 3mm bore on 3mm silver steel stub axles and the car runs perfectly straight which seems to prove the point again that this is where the 'shimmy' problem lies.

Excellent, Wes. This is a real surprise! Can you show us more pictures of the steering, top and bottom side?

Thanks,
David

The steering is pretty much standard. The alloy plates are just slightly wider to the king pins but the overall width is about the same as a 1/32 car. I managed to drill out the king pin mouldings to 3mm diam. for the stub axles. The body is held with two magnets in line.
I have just ordered a sister car, the SMEC (merit) Alfa Romeo 157 plastic kit. These are available for only around £10 but quite difficult to find.
