Just to find out if it works: 1/24 scratch build chassis

Hi freaks,

everybody of you knowing me from slotracing knows my affinity for realistic scale looks - scenery and cars. Now, planning a garden track 1/24scale it would be great

1. to allow bigger cars for big garden track
2. to allow scale looks for the cars.

Playing arround with the future design of the track I just wanted to find out if the MagRacing-sytem could be used for 1/24 without bigger changes. Possible problems might be

1. higher weight
2. too much grip of tyres (first time in my life I start thinking about how to reduce grip  )
3. batterycapacity when using bigger motor (to compensate weight)
4. choice of magnets (steering/linechange, steering-compensation)

No answers for these questions without trying: Here we go.

A new chassis for a Ferrari 512S Berlinetta:
Image

Try to build it from Plasticard, PVC availible in different thickness. First try to be simple and fast, just to tryout. 2mm should be stable enough.
Image

Bumper mounted, batterycompartment sawn out. Chosen 2 batterys: parallel circuit; still 3.8V but 1600mAh then. Hopefully compensates the needs of bigger engine.

Frame for batterycompartment:
Image

Note centerline as a base for all other measuring and mounting. 'S' is the level for the sensor, 'FA' is location of the frontaxle, 'RA' is location of the rear axle. Batterycompartment closed with cap. Grey area to be the place for the electronics later. Hole for sensor drilled.
Image

Bodymount in the rear of the car and engine (for now loosely fit in). This size of motor is availible in different voltage and speeds of rotation. Gear and rear axle as well as weels are the from the original car (for now). The washer on the photo needed due to heightdifference between chassis and body  .

Fitted into the body - worked fine so far:

Beginning to construct the steering, nothing new, just a cheap copy of Wes' great steering.

What do you think? Could it work? Worth the effort? Any ideas? Any thoughts? Would love to hear about your opinion.

More to follow soon. Thanks for watching. Regards Jens

Thanks a lot.

Thats look lika an easy building och a chassi! Right thinking.
If it will be less racingtime att a battery dosnt matter in my opinion.

I have som slight simular Idea, soo it mayby will be time for more Wine from the region?

Looks good Jens. We considered 1/24 but decided that 1/32 would be more popular
initially. Although, with only 2 lanes, a 1/24 Magracing track would be much more
compact than a 6 lane slot track. I assume you are using the standard radio.
Hopefully the speed controller will stand the higher current. You will need a more
powerfull coil for the steering, especially if you use rubber tyres. Let me know
if I can help. I look forward to seeing further progress.

this was also my first dream, a 1/24 realistic racecar.

before wes sold this system, after I see the first video, i dreamed about this, and I made a 1/24 slotcar racing with rc controllers for the first step.

I dont know you from 1/24 racing Jens, but mayby you know me, I raced for many years in Neumünster 5l rennen, and also the DPM in Frankfurt many times.

when racing the big races like those I dream about getting this magracing into the 1/24 and have a classic race with 16 cars on the track.

but yes we need better magnet since the weight is higher

hi all magracers. here are my first try to built a 1:24 magracer.with a 1,5 volt battery, the 190 runs free round my track. i took a original chassie and worked it over.elektronic is missing, i installed 2 original motors (hope the esc. can handle this).longer gearing is with the greater wheels.

Very interesting. Please keep us posted.
Would like to know if Jens (Kellerkind) finished his 1/24 scale magracer chassis for his beautiful Ferrari 512S Berlinetta.
