future of magracing

Post by Jeee »

Recently there was a disappointing post here about the direction of magracing. I cannot find it anymore but still felt the need to reply. I am one of the people who do not have a magracing setup yet because it takes quite some time, money and space to get it going. I read plenty of comments on the site that might help to take magracing to the next level and did not see any steps taken toward that direction (they can of course be hidden to the forum users). Personally I already gave some idea's here: viewtopic.php?p=2921#p2921. I really think that magracing needs and can have an almost ready to play package that is multi function able but the will, motivation and resources need to be there to make that happen.

Regarding the steering and track: if the steering and a coil as the magnet for guidance I discussed is possible it might also be possible to fine tune that to fit existing slot tracks.

I also wondered if for the communication bluetooth was tested. That can be used without to much costs you can use your phone/tablet to control the car as well which might make it even more attractive to people to give it a try since they don't need a separate controller. (as well as maybe have the car drive by the computer and add sensors)

Hi Jee,
I think guidance with a coil is not possible in these cars. There is no space for it. With a track setup well, the whole system works fine. The same with the transmitters. For real Racing with many curves,LC, you need a rc-like remote controller. Using a Smartphone is OK for trains.

There already is a coil on the car for steering? And it looks like the hardware can be pretty small:

even smaller:
https://www.simblee.com/

might even be smaller then the current board.

Also it looks like others already did it for basic rc:
http://www.instructables.com/id/Bluetoo ... /?ALLSTEPS

They even coded the controller already.

just to connect a motor (I suppose a coil is about the same):

I suppose a 3d model can be created to replace a slot.it chassis (http://www.slot.it/Download/CH50_assemb ... uction.pdf) to include the steering items so slot.it parts can be used.

looks doable. Am I missing something because this path seems a very logical one to me???

by the way: is it possible to use supercapacitors instead of batteries and use inductive changing? That would make a nice pitstop system ;-)
