Re: Materials, Tools, and Techniques for Outdoor Track
Ned, Another cool hobby to get into is model R/C tanks: http://www.desertarmor.com/DAK2/DAK_HOME.html This group has a really cool outdoor setup in the Phoenix area. I haven't been there in a while - but I have been there a number of times. I created a short video that is on one of their web page li...

Re: Materials, Tools, and Techniques for Outdoor Track
Ned,
I'm feeling much better now - now back to work!
You are truly "paving the way" for outdoor Magracing. You might want to see if you are the very first person to do this!
Now all you need are lights, for night driving!
How have you addressed drainage?
Sincerely,
Bert

Re: Materials, Tools, and Techniques for Outdoor Track
Wow! Your track looks incredible! You may be on to something - as there is already a big following of model railroad hobbyists who have built outdoor model railroads. My project stalled a little - I have to repair my band saw and I ended up in the hospital for a severe case of Vertigo. I'm planning ...

Re: Stow Away Tables!
I've not been working on my track, for a while. My mother came out to Arizona to visit, for my birthday. I love her so much! She will be 82, in December. So I took a break from my hobbies and other activities. So . . . . today I took on the tunnel! This was probably the most complex part of my track...

Re: Stow Away Tables!
I have painted the "Tiger's Teeth". After I spray a flat clear coat over the white and red paint I will be ready to cover the tunnel area and continue building the track!

Re: Stow Away Tables!
Now I'm cooking with gas! I sanded the track that will be under the tunnel and painted this section with the Plasti Dip paint. I'm glad I bought grey paint (that's "gray" for the folks here in the U.S.) because after the paint dried, it looks darker than the color on the lid. I also ordere...

Re: Stow Away Tables!
I've been doing some more work.
Here are some photos
BTW - I moved my finish line to the end of the pit area - I did not realize that the lap counter system I have starts at zero - and then counts from there.

Re: Stow Away Tables!
Work in Progress: I had to change the design of the table: 1. Replaced the locking hinges with bigger, stronger traditional hinges 2. Added some metal bars to stabilize the fold out legs. Started laying out the first level of track. Photo shows the track in the stowed position. Next steps: install t...

Re: Stow Away Tables!
I started drawing the track and two lanes. I have much more work to do (next weekend).
I used carbon paper to make a copy of the full scale track drawing from large paper onto each sheet of board.
Stay tuned!
